Back in 1974 a young teacher had an idea and sent this letter to the Superintendent of his school board.

Tim Borlase must have thought Christmas had come early when he received this reply from the Superintendent:

Tim set to work. First he contacted Noreen Heighton, a like-minded teacher in the Labrador Catholic School Board. Together they set to planning what was to become an annual even in the town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay.
